The Oakland Foundation was delighted to provide funding for the Wakefield Young Carers Action Day celebration event which was held on the 18th March.
This was an opportunity for the Wakefield Young Carers to have fun together and to raise awareness of the needs of young carers.
Oakland Foundation Grant Application Co-ordinator Debbie Roberts attended the event with her Oakland International Knottingley-based colleague Kerri Jones.
Said Debbie: “The event was amazing; we got to meet and talk to so many children who do so much as young carers. Their stories gave us an opportunity to see their strength and resilience and we were in awe of what they do.”
Young Carers Action Day is held in mid-March and is a national campaign led by the Carers Trust, focused on the theme of “Give Me A Break,” highlighting the need for young carers to have time for themselves and calling for better support from schools and employers.
