Ipsley CE RSA Academy pupils were ‘flipping’ delighted thanks to Redditch children’s charity the Oakland Foundation who donated batter mix to all Year 5 students and arranged for a donation of pancakes care of May & Raeburn to help the school make this year’s Pancake Day of Shrove Tuesday on the 13th February flippin marvellous.
Foundation trustee, Hayley Smith, stated: “We are so grateful to May & Raeburn and delighted to be able to once again support the school’s Pancake Day celebrations. Providing pupils with free pancake batter allows the school to take part in this annual celebration and helps explain the background and origins of Shrove Tuesday.”
Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional day of feasting before Ash Wednesday, and the 40 days of Lent leading up to Easter. Shrove Tuesday enables Christians and those observing the Lent practice, to use up their surplus eggs and fats before embarking upon the traditional Lenten fast, with pancakes offering the perfect way of utilising these ingredients.
Ipsley CE RSA Academy Year 5 pupils were delighted saying: “That was the best pancake I have ever had!” and “That’s really kind of them, to give us all those pancakes, thank you Oakland.”
May & Raeburn’s Sales Director Peter Massey commented: “We are always happy to support Oakland’s work in the community and the celebration of Shrove Tuesday with the fun of pancake activities can provide a fun way for pupils to learn more about this important tradition.”
